About

Lindsey Schreiber is a process driven, self-taught artist living in Taos, NM. Inspired by the tension existing between what is seen and unseen: the beauty of the natural world and the mystery of all that is hidden from view, Lindsey’s work has a playful and vibrant quality, an invitation to curiosity and delight. Working mainly in acrylics, with elements of mixed media, she explores color, pattern, and texture through a process of layering and subtraction that stays open to chance and creates a sense of history and depth in her images.

Artist Statement

Curiosity, beauty, and mystery are central to my work. For me, art making is as much about seeing as it is creating; moving through the world, noticing. My work is inspired by nostalgia, memory, dreams, emotion, glimpses from the corners of my vision and the tension of unanswered questions. I start from a place of play and intuition, allowing chance and the materials to guide me while the painting begins to take form, nudging me further into uncertainty. I am drawn to create both representational and abstract images, often going back and forth between the two. My journey as a painter has so far been about trust: trusting myself, but more than that, trusting the process of creativity itself, something I am more and more passionate about. When I am painting, I find myself moving beyond language and rationality to follow the energies that arise, to connect to something larger than myself.
