About

I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas near the museum district. As a child I was fortunate enough to be exposed to all the arts - visual arts, theater, literary arts and music of all genres. It was at a very early age that I knew I would be an artist and I was blessed with a mother who shared my vision and encouraged me to paint, draw and write poetry. After graduating from high school I attende. In 2016 I was named an Albuquerque Art Treasure. I have painted for over forty years. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is in numerous public, private and corporate collections.

Artist Statement

The piece I have entered is done in the style of the Transcendentalists. Over the past twenty years I have created a vocabulary of icons that embody various spiritual aspects. This idea of the spiritual in art goes way back for me. At the time I did not know what the image was about but knew I had to paint it. I started Elegy for Ukraine in 2022 a month before Russia attacked Ukraine and artists began to paint images of the sunflower, the national flower of Ukraine. So as I worked I began to feel that this image was an intuitive offering to Ukraine. The sunflower and the use of blue and yellow, the colors of the flag of Ukraine, came together to image a prayer for this war-torn country.
