About

Playing with art materials has been my lives passion. Painting or creating for myself or helping other to be creative has been my history. My landscape paintings are the direct results of playing with something I love deeply, the land, and by using my strong belief of compositional elements to make a painting work. I have been a landscape artist for years and I strive to focus on using abstracted elements to make my compositions unique and special. Being raised in the country of Northern NM, the land gets in you; it is part of you, but when it comes down to it, I just love to create.

Artist Statement

My abstract creations are pure play time! I play with colors, lines, shapes, textures, patterns and value. When I am creating I do so in a fun, loose fashion that captures my emotions at the time. Color and energy are all around me, I just try to get in onto a surface. I work with no objective in mind. I’m just getting energy out. I use whatever I have around, mark making tool like charcoal, graphite, sticks dragged through paint. I use different painting mediums such as watercolors, inks, acrylic and sometimes oils. There is no limitation, only play and expression. After the “play” session is over, I cut up the finished pieces and rearrange in a collage fashion. Most often, I layer transparent prints on top to add interest and depth. I have recently started to express this play in fiber. Sometimes the finished piece is just fiber, piecing and embroidery and sometime the fiber piece is again, a collage of paper and fiber elements. We’ll see where that takes me. For me, this “no rules” approach is pure freedom. It is pure play.
