About
I began doing art when I discovered, while doodling during a high school class, that I could draw. I progressed to using oils and acrylics and later pastels. Since 1980 I have participated in one-person, group, and invitational shows in Massachusetts and later in the San Francisco Bay area. When computers became fast enough, around the year 2000, I began to do digital art and have continued to create digital works primarily since about 2010.
Artist Statement
My current artistic direction is using digital media to create portraits, landscapes and waterscapes, still lifes, and abstracts. These art works are different from the digital art that is usually seen, in that my images are based on the esthetics of traditional art media, but expand the visual possibilities far beyond the capabilities of traditional art media. The versatility of digital art opens a number of artistic directions that are very difficult or impossible to do with traditional media. That, plus the ability to experiment with dozens of variations in the time it takes to do a single image with traditional media, are major factors in my decision to work with digital art media. Also, did I mention that there is minimal setup time and no cleanup when using digital media?
