About

I am based in the Southwest and have been creating art for 33 years. Through my artwork I have developed a personal style that evolved from life experiences, studies, ideas, experimentation, curiosity, and practice. Nothing is as satisfying as having a blank canvas to ponder, a camera full of images to be edited, an idea yet to be explored, or a new method or technique to be mastered. I received a Bachelors degree of Fine Arts from the University of NM. During the early years of my career, I studied and experimented with non-traditional photographic printing methods like Cyanotype, Gum-Bichromate, and finally Polaroid transfer prints. My abstract compositions explore the relationship between color and form and seek to evoke an emotional experience in the viewer. The work ranges from compositions which bring about a sense of quiet reflection and contemplation to works of a vibrant kinetic nature meant to shake things up. My technique blends elements of photography, painting, and printmaking.

Artist Statement

Nothing is as satisfying as having a blank canvas to ponder, a camera full of images to be edited, an idea yet to be explored, or a new technique to be mastered. I am a Southwest 2-D artist who has created art for the past 35 years. I am inspired by color, light, shadow, and architecture. Using photography and painting I combine elements into abstract compositions which maintain a touch of the familiar. These familiar elements are meant to draw the viewer in. On occasion, I have been asked to explain how I know when an abstract image is finished. Well, I keep working with the composition until it resonates with me emotionally or intellectually. In other words, it is like running into an old friend in a foreign or exotic location. I feel both startled and yet pleasantly surprised.
