Artist Statement

For most of my life I have expressed my passion for color, design, and form. My work with textiles, clay, natural dyes, and watercolor are integrated into and inform my current work. For my paintings, I begin with collage elements and other materials. Then, acrylic paint and textural media are layered onto a birch panel. Additive and subtractive techniques add a raw sophistication complexity and depth to an otherwise one dimensional surface. I love the brilliance of color and the unencumbered simplicity of working with watercolor on paper. My soul connects with the process of using material derived from Nature and the joyful witnessing of the mysteries of alchemy with the sensuality of fiber. My inspiration is derived from many sources, but ultimately, it is the beauty I find in Nature that make me feel awe. I hope to evoke emotion and intellectual curiosity with my abstract painting.
