About

Aarin Richard is an artist in Santa Fe, NM. As a painter, his work is centered in abstract and abstract landscape, which attempts to redefine our perception of the physical reality around us and our relationship to that reality. His work is in numerous private collections. Aarin began studying art in high school, where influential teachers set him on a course of creativity. Visual arts took a detour when music became the focus and upon arriving in Los Angeles, he began a career as a musician, composer and producer. Eventually hired by Walt Disney Imagineering as a Media Designer, he worked on numerous projects worldwide. Moving to Sony Development, the work continued in a collaboration with Apple Records and Abbey Road Studios for projects in Berlin and Tokyo. During this period, he also founded a movement theater company known as Fred’s House, which performed at numerous events and festivals. Upon moving to Santa Fe in 2009, Aarin was invited into a long established gallery which eventually became the Aarin Richard Gallery, featuring his own paintings as well as historic American Indian art. The gallery put up several well received shows, notably, Painted Hide, Painted Canvas and Winter Arroyos de Santa Fe, the later being a collection of Aarin’s photography.

Artist Statement

Art can offer us opportunities to move beyond our preconceived notions of reality and see the world in new ways. Creativity arises from an openness to those possibilities and for me, the medium can be interchangeable. As a painter, I try to look beyond my conditioned and filtered perceptions. My process starts somewhere between pure spontaneity and loosely planned. I don’t try to force a rigid, preconceived vision as I usually find that the paint and canvas have things to say along the journey… I consider them collaborators.
