About
Thomas Christopher Haag was born into a family as vast as the sea. He took chemistry and math classes for some reason at the university of Kansas and then dropped out and started hitchhiking and doing art. He has lived in southern Mexico, Switzerland, India, Spain, the Pacific Northwest and the great American Southwest. For the past 18 years, he has been ridiculously involved and obnoxiously in love with the New Mexico art scene, living and working in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos. When he’s had to work, he’s been a commercial diver, propman, art director, curator, gallery owner, artist and muralist. In the Albuquerque area he has fostered the local art scene through community projects such as The Stove, Cirq and Relic; all art and music venues showcasing New Mexico talent. An avid muralist, he has painted buildings in Oaxaca, Barcelona, Venice, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, Varanasi, Bangkok, Rangoon, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Oakland, to name a few.
Artist Statement
I use reclaimed house paint taken from chemical disposal facilities, found wood, and discarded books, with which I construct multi-layered, collaged paintings and assemblages referencing the shared global human experience, ancient cultures and spiritual traditions. Inspiration includes, but is not limited to, the nature of consciousness, natural patterns from micro to macro, subatomic, biologic and galactic structures, events of divine banality and cosmic significance.
