About
I am constantly pushing myself to explore and to grow. The fiber abstractions are my next step in this journey. I have worked representational for most of my artistic career but in the last ten years I have investigated abstraction through painting, collage and now fiber. It is my journey.
Artist Statement
My abstract fiber creations are pure play time! I play with colors, lines, shapes, textures, patterns and value. When I am creating I do so in a fun, loose fashion that captures my emotions at the time. Color and energy are all around me, I just try to get it sewn together. I work with no objective in mind. I’m just getting energy out. I use no pattern, just my intuition and the limitations that the sewing process instills on me. There are no "multiples". We’ll see where this takes me. For me, this “no rules” approach is pure freedom. It is pure play.
As I produce the quilted pieces, I often find they just morph into what they become. Design, pure and simple. I often have to cut parts out or add additional colors and shapes to make the fabric piece work. The quilting is done mostly with the matchstick stitching method. There are 3 layers, the top, the batting and a base color. Although these have been gently stretched onto canvas stretcher bars they can always be taken off and use in a more traditional manner.
