Morgan Barnard, a Santa Fe based New Media artist, creates experiential, immersive artworks that blend animation, video, dynamic lighting, sound, rapid prototyping, and generative design. His immersive projections, lighting installations, screen-based art, and physical media take viewers on mesmerizing journeys through museums, galleries, festivals, and public spaces.
With a diverse background in fine art, education, filmmaking, music, and interactive design, Barnard infuses each creation with a unique, multidisciplinary sensibility. His artistic practice explores the emergent nature of reality by combining systems from the natural world and generative media, offering an experimental platform for interactive experiences and performance-based pieces.
Notable public art projects include ""Tilikum Light"" in Portland, Oregon, using data from the Willamette River to control dynamic lighting on the Tilikum Crossing bridge, and ""Sublimare"" at the San Diego airport, influenced by real-time data from a wave buoy off the coast of California.
Recognized by Southwest Contemporary Magazine as one of the 12 New Mexico Artists to Know Now in 2022, Morgan Barnard's thought-provoking and captivating artworks invite audiences to ponder the emergent nature of reality and its profound connection to human perception.
Artist Statement
In my work, I aim to create moments of introspection and reflection by creating works that position the viewer in the moment through interaction and observation. I'm inspired by the dynamic nature of the constantly changing world around us. I want to create experiences that both challenge our understanding of perception and our sensory experiences while at the same time allow us the space to consider perception of our inner worlds and how we can find balance between inside and outside through experience. I hope that my work can create experiences that scaffold our understanding about how we can find inner stability in this constantly changing world we live in. I want to convey solace and understanding through sensory experiences.
