About
Magdalena Sandor resides in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She got her B.S. in physics from DePaul University in Chicago and Ph.D. in physics from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Art has always interested her, and she took a few art classes while in high school. Post-graduation she began to start painting in 2016 as a hobby, which eventually grew more seriously as she found more joy in creating new works and developing her skillset. Her main interests reside in painting wildly colored abstract figures motivated by feelings and inspiration from everyday life.
Artist Statement
My paintings are essentially a reflection of myself and are often satirical in nature. I rely heavily on emotions of fear, sadness, self-consciousness, joy, and frustration to first visualize shapes and colors. Color schemes are inspired by various places I have lived, my culture, nature, and the works of other local NM artists. I also draw inspiration from my brother who is a classically trained painter and teacher. My works are often very colorful and bold that counter strongly with my introvert nature. Bright colors bring me most happiness and my work is meant to be loud and ridiculous hopefully bring joy to others that see it.
