About

Lindsey Schreiber is an artist living in Taos, New Mexico. Inspired by the tension existing between what is seen and unseen: the beauty of the natural world and the mystery of that which is hidden from view. Lindsey’s work has a playful and vibrant quality, an invitation to curiosity and delight. Over the past two decades, while raising her family and building a therapy practice, Lindsey has carved out space to explore her art and love of painting. Working mainly in acrylics, with elements of mixed media, she explores color, pattern, and texture through a process of layering and subtraction that stays open to chance and creates a sense of history and depth in her images.

Artist Statement

My journey as an artist has been rooted in patience and practice: working to hone particular skills while learning to listen, allowing myself to linger in uncertainty and trust the process of creativity itself. I love working with acrylic paint because it is dynamic and malleable. It can be manipulated in ways that allow surprising elements to emerge, guiding the evolution of the composition. My paintings are built in layers, with the finished painting often living on top of several previous iterations. For the past few years, I have been exploring a pink centered palette, finding there is always more to discover. To me, this palette feels playful, optimistic, and energized. The color pink has a buoyancy to it, a quality of friendliness, an insistence on beauty. My paintings are artifacts of the dance between a longing to understand and the ultimately unknowable nature of existence. I believe in optimism and joy, not as forms of denial, but as acts of resistance. My desire is that, for the viewer, my work invokes a sense of hope, curiosity, and delight.
