About

A native of Berkeley, California, I began my formal art studies at the California College of Arts and Crafts. I then resided in Florence, Italy for ten years, where I studied painting with Raffaele Del Savio; then head of scenic design at Florence’s renowned opera house, Il Teatro Communale.

Upon returning to the United States, I worked as a commercial illustrator and authored as well as illustrated books for children. Clients have frequently asked me to apply my artist’s eye as a photographer, and I am currently the photographer for the Taos Jazz Society.

In New York, I applied my practice of illustration, set design, and painting to create high-end interior murals. I have had numerous gallery shows in Europe and the United States, and I am currently represented by Magpie in Taos.

In my studio practice in Taos, New Mexico, I continue a lifelong passion for abstract expressionism as well as representational art. The works of Franz Kline, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, and Hans Hoffman have had an important influence on my art as well as the spare aesthetics of Japanese art.

Artist Statement

The urgency of the composition allows me to bypass attitudes and interpretations; showing an authentic self. The painting or sculpture is an action; a vision; a vivid display of being.
