About
Monique lives in a rural village at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, where for the past twenty years, she has dedicated herself to teaching, writing, spiritual studies—and now, art. Her paintings are informed by the landscape and her work as a teacher of Vedic chanting. Her original paintings have been exhibited in the following group exhibitions: Taos Fall Arts from 2021/2022 to 2021-2023, Questa Studio Art Tour from 2022 to 2021/2022, 2022/2023 Millicent Rogers Annual Miniature Show, the 2022 New Mexico Art League’s Holiday Show, 2023 Colorium International Online Exhibit, 2023 Online Exhibit at San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center, 2023 Las Laguna Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA, Be Proud, Be Loud Exhibit at KBM Art Gallery in Riverside, CA, Proud+ at The Studio Door in San Diego, CA, and Western Rendezvous Group Exhibit at the Spanish Peaks Arts & Cultural Center in La Veta, CO.
Artist Statement
Painting for me is an act of worship. As a self-taught, late-blooming artist, I soon discovered that the painting process allowed me to transmit my love of the Divine through color, shape, mark-making, composition, and the unpredictability and magic of creating something from emptiness. Much like Tibetan prayer flags that release holy prayers, my paintings are a way for me to offer blessings into the world. My recent body of work explores the individuality of each person’s life story, including values, experiences, influences, successes, failures, hopes and dreams. Using cold wax and oil, I’m able to intuitively build up 10-12 layers of transparency, opacity, and marks that symbolize the many layers that make each of our lives unique. My process relies heavily on intuition and connection to nature and spiritual energy.
