About
My current mediums of choice are photography, acrylic paints, oil pastels, pencil/charcoal sketching, and micaceous pottery. My love of photography began as a child, inspired by my dad’s nature photography, and I later took courses in photography and pottery in undergrad while I studied History and Middle Eastern Archaeology, using photography to capture my travels throughout Latin America and the Middle East. This background and exposure to different cultures greatly influenced my interest in doing things the “old way” whether it be pottery, fiber arts, or my current goal to someday make my own natural dyes and paints from the rocks and plants I collect in the Southwest. I strongly believe that various art forms will find you when you need them most, if you are quiet enough to listen and feel.
Artist Statement
Born in Aurora, CO and raised in New Mexico and Northern California, I descend from Southwest Indigenous, Iberian, Sephardic, and Northern European lineages. The many artists, musicians, and healers of these lineages are my inspiration, as my work aims to inspire a different perspective to the seemingly ordinary, and a deeper listening to what it can reveal to us. Creating art has been an integral part of my journey and most recently a fundamental part of my trauma healing. As I have found myself led back to Northern New Mexico and the land of my maternal ancestors, I try to capture the magic and healing I have experienced here, as I am most drawn towards shadows and reflections that make me pause and wonder what is real and what is illusion.
