Artist Statement
Accidental is my motto. I don’t know how the painting will turn out; if I do, the painting is lost. My recent work begins with an elaborate acrylic painting over which I use oils to manipulate the surface creating an image of beauty and confusion. Using poured paint, and invented tools, I present a fusion of fifty years of work. It is abstract, brightly-colored, emotional, watery, often pockmarked and agitated. Both one’s mind and the earth are in a constant state of building up and eroding, layering and revealing. Mimicking the process of nature—dripping, pouring, wearing away, sanding, splattering, I am concerned with the degradation of our earth. I am also concerned with making the paint do something and of making something out of nothing. I want people to see in a different way. My work is ugly but beautiful at the same time.
