About
Ricky Pass is a mixed media artist working in Taos, New Mexico. Originally from Amarillo, Texas, childhood summers were spent in Northern New Mexico where she formed an intense interest in the history and mystique of the area. Those experiences inspired her to eventually move her home and art studio to Taos.
Ricky previously owned design firms in Atlanta, GA and Colorado Springs, CO, specializing in historical renovation, and commercial and residential design. She often curated art collections and painted work commissioned by her clients. She was a founding member of The Springs Seven, an en plein air group in Colorado Springs.
After relocating to Taos, she served as Vice President on the Taos Fall Art Festival Board for five years. Her formal studies in art and design were at West Texas State University and Meramec College. She studied individually with Ray Vinella, Kim English, Nicholas Wilton and Krista Harris.
Artist Statement
I work with many materials and strive to create the beautiful from the ordinary. As I work to integrate oils and acrylics, wax, encaustics or hand dyed papers, my goal is to translate every day materials into work that sparks curiosity. I like to create story by using altered papers, dying or printing my own images and I often use found images, screen printing or block printing processes. I am intrigued by the complexity of history and change and I strive for energy of place through color and pattern. Partially obscured images often speak to the history and events that have occurred in a different time and locale or an experience from my own life. The balance of color, texture and scale is an important part of each piece.
